Amazon’s Gender and Racial Discrimination Impacts on Employee Performance
Abstract
Gender and racial discrimination are major issues in today's corporations. In this paper, we investigate Amazon to see how their employees do based on race and gender. A positive work environment allows employees to reach their full potential. It makes them happy and promotes a more productive workplace. Regardless, bias is difficult to avoid and can be found in almost every aspect of our lives. If employees are not happy due to inequity or biased decisions, eventually they leave or try to collectively make their work environment better by voting for unions, as did some Amazon employees in Staten Island warehouse on April 2, 2022. Our brains are designed to classify the objects we encounter to make sense of the complex world around us. Biases, on the other hand, can lead to prejudices against others, resulting in significant inequities across various groups. While there are many kinds of biases, this research focuses on racial and gender bias in the workplace. We will go through what gender prejudice is, where and when it occurs, as well as the consequences and strategies for reducing gender bias to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
